Yankees vs. red sox - 6/8/06
I have gone to at least one Yankees/red sux game for the past five or six (?) years now (including opening day last year, the Mussina almost-perfect game, and the "the Yankees are my daddy" game), mostly thanx to my buddy Jay. This year something got fouled up and we didn't get tix, which was hugely disappointing.
Until now!!! Jay just gave me tix for the game this Thursday!!!! For FREE! And it gets better, they're in the right field bleachers, front row! HELL YEAH!
So excited. A million thanx to Jay.
Here's the match-up (via yankees.com):
Thursday, June 8
Yankee Stadium 7:05 PM ET
Tim Wakefield, RHP (4-7, 4.05) Red Sox (33-22)
@
Randy Johnson, LHP (7-4, 5.33) Yankees (34-22)
Scouting Report:
Wakefield is coming off another tough-luck loss, as he gave up six hits and three runs over seven innings to the Tigers. It has been a recurring theme, as the Red Sox have averaged just 3.8 runs per game when Wakefield pitches. This is the fourth time Wakefield has faced the Yankees this season. In the first three outings against Boston's chief rival, Wakefield is 1-1 with a 5.49 ERA.
Johnson looks to build on his last two starts, in which he appears to have found something that had been missing for more than a month. Johnson allowed four runs in 7 1/3 innings against Baltimore, but three of those runs came in the first inning. He retired 21 of the last 24 hitters he faced.
Fingers crossed that Johnson doesn't suck. A big win would get him off my shitlist. And how 'bout that game last night! Mussina = Cy Young. Cabrera continues to shine. Phillips is finding his place. And oh yeah, Giambi was Player of the Month for April, and now Rodriquez is the Player of the Month for May.
Update: 6/7/06 - The game was rained out tonight, so the pitching match-up for tomorrow will be Schilling vs. Wright. If Wright continues to pitch well, it will be a good game. Fuckin rain. First SFA, now this.
