3 Bands

Band #1 - Voxtrot

An odd show. Last time I saw these guys was during CMJ at a day party at Rothko. There were maybe 100 people there. This time it's at Prospect Park with an audience that was most likely in the thousands. Very happy for Voxtrot, who deserve it. They seemed a little nervous at first, which is to be expected, but that went away very quickly. Loved their set and can't wait to see them again, perferably somewhere just a little bit smaller. And without chairs.

Note to Celebrate Brooklyn! folks - the chairs suck. Why give the audience an excuse to sit on their asses and give a NYC crowd an excuse to be lifeless. However, chair dancing is always fun, and I excell at it.

- Break for dinner at San Loco. The food was great, the Margaritas were greater. BTW - coming soon - San Loco Williamsburg. Nice. On N4th between Bedford and Driggs.

Band #2 - Tally Hall

Heard that these guys were fun and quickly realized how much of an understatement that is. This band reminds me of music for the soundtrack of a mid-90's teen flick. Is it too early to be a 90's throwback? Hell no. My main impression of these guys is that it seems like they are going for it. You can tell that they probably practice a ton and they have their set down. They nailed this show. Was told afterwards that MTV was taping for a "You hear it first" piece. Maybe that's why they brought their A+ game. At first I thought, "Um, I think these guys just stole the show," but then....

Band #3 - Birdmonster

What a payoff. Been psyched about seeing these guys for a while and the excitement was peaked as they got on stage. They then proceeded to destroy. If any band out there need some energy, ask Birdmonster for some, because they have some to spare. Didn't know where to look because each member was doing something amazing. You know how some bands have that one guy who just stands there, usually the base player, and just grooves. No such guy in this band. I didn't fully understand the Springsteen comparisons that I've heard until seeing them live. Now I get it. Catch them live and you will too.

So these guys have one of my favorite albums of 2006 and one of my favorite performances of 2006. I guess I need to make room for them in my "current bands" top 10.

Ahh, San Loco Williamsburg. That's why there is now a huge kitchen ventilation duct running through my apartment building. I wonder if I'll be lazy enough to order delivery.
